How to wear Doc Martens

How to wear: Doc Martens

If you have just brought some Dr. Martens or looking to buy a pair and you are unsure of what to wear with them, here's some ideas of how to style them. I would recommend your first pair to be a nice, plain black pair and try some that are fairly short.

How to pair these with your jeans.

Back in the '90s, both men and women wore faded boot cut bluejeans, and rolled them up a little to show off the boots. For a modern twist, chose a darker wash jean with a straight leg. Still roll them up a bit (this time for a slight cuff) to see the boot.

Flannel shirts, tartan skirts and doc martens were born out of the Seattle grunge scene of the '90s. The trends persist and countless young celebrities sport Converse or Doc martins, flannels over leggings and skinny jeans, and ripped tights layered under cut-off jean shorts. It's almost as if Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana are still playing on the radio when in fact Foster the People, Vampire Weekend are controlling the airwaves. Wearing your Docs with a flannel shirt is perfect for achieving that vintage look but if it isnt your thing i recommend opting for a simple white oxford shirt or black fitted, long sleeve T for that cleaner look.

If you are going for a more feminine look, skirts and dresses look best paired with these boots. Alternate the flower print baby dolls with a fitted miniskirt and loose top.

Another look for ladies, is cutoff denim shorts with black tights. Simple Doc Martens complement the look nicely and fits well with the vintage and retro trends most celebrities sport these days.

Maxi skirts

Maxi skirts are my must have for summer. If you hate showing your legs as much i do, they are perfect to wear on a hot day where anything other than shorts/ mini skirts, such as jeans and leggings, would be unbearable. They cover my legs, provide a cool breeze, suit my shape and frame, yet still look on trend and smart.

How to wear:

  • If you are short, wear a maxi skirt at your waist, rather than your hips to elongate the legs making you appear much taller. Also if your 'maxi' is too long, add some high wedges. They will give you some more height and make you feel more elegant.
  • If you are taller and find it hard to find a maxi skirt to fit you length-wise , try going for a maxi which is designed to be sat at the waist, and wear it on your hips. This way you are shortening the length and the appearance of your legs.
  • Maxi skirts are not just for summer or when it's hot, they can also be worn in the cold autumn/winter months. Simply put on a pair of leggings or tights underneath for a bit of added warmth.
What to wear with your 'maxi':
  • In the winter months, layer up with different t shirts, jumpers & scarves. I find that jersey like fabrics sit better for colder days.
  •  In the summer months, wear floaty fabrics, vest tops, and light tshirts.
  • As maxi skirts are so long, you can get away with wearing many different top variations and tucking them in. You could even wear a pretty dress or swimming costume underneath & all would be concealed.
  • For the evenings when its a bit cooler and you want to cover your shoulders, cropped jackets and blazers look best with maxi skirts, as it helps to balance everything out. I tend to opt for a cropped denim jacket for a more casual look, and if I'm going somewhere nice, I'll go for a cropped blazer.
  • Any type of shoes go with maxi skirts. I personally only wear gladiator sandals as that's what i feel more comfortable in but flip flops, boots, boat shoes, heels, and wedges also look great.
Overall, i love maxi skirts as you can dress them up or down and wear just about anything with them. They are perfect for covering up your legs while making you feel girly and elegant. Below i have added some images of ladies wearing their 'maxi' to give you some inpiration. :)

What I got in my glossy box August 2012

While doing a spot of gardening at the front of my house, I noticed a little grey and pink box hiding in a bush. It was my glossy box. (we have a rubbish lazy postman). I stopped everything and rushed into my house to see what treats I have received this month. A little bit disappointed glossy box! But still some nice little products. Here is what I got:

Alessandro pro white. This is a
German brand and is for brightening up your
nails. perfect if you don't wear nail polish.
Broadway press on nails. These are a
brown and gold design.
Lipcote.  An excellent British brand. This is
their lipstick sealer.

DHC Deep cleansing oil. A really good
makeup remover from Japan.
Glossy box's own brand lipstick in glossy
pink. Really nice lipstick but not my colour.
Vera Valenti eyeshadow palette. Nice, handy product
with brown eye creme and green powder shadows.
Again not my favourite colours but will be a good present for someone.

Glossy box is £10 + p&p a month. Order from

Make your Tshirts and sell them in your own shop.

For those who are looking to earn a some pocket money, i have found this awesome website called Spreadshirt. It allows you to create your own tshirts or accessory designs then sell them in a shop. You dont get the full amount of the sell but a small commission for your design. Have had a little play and found it very simple to use. Please check out my designs here:

Let me know what you think. :)

Pound shop nails

Brought these pretty nails from the pound shop today. They are blue with daisies painted on them. I like them as they are self adhesive so no messy glue. Good buy.

Pound shop makeup haul

After a tip off from a friend who told me they were selling Stila makeup in the pound shop, I had to get myself there. Unfortunately I think I was a little bit late. They did have a few things left but it was mainly dark fountains and powders left. I did find the angel light whitening powder foundation and a cute compact container to put it in. I also picked up the Stila smooth skin moisture powder fountain refil but this seems a little dark for my fair skin.

I also picked up a couple of other little goodies to try. I got a Rimmel lipgloss in SOS red, collection 2000 skyscraper mascara, colour junkie eye dust which is a sparkly chocolate colour, a matchbox nail and tweezers set which comes with a compact mirror, some pretty daisy design fake nails, some new brushes and a pot of nail varnish remover. Haven't yet tried these products but will update the post when I do.

Got a parcel from river island today. In it was a beautiful rose gold bracelet watch brought for £20 and featured in a previous post. Also I brought two rose gold rings. A cat and a set of three thumb rings. Very happy with my purchase.

White sun glasses

Celebrities such as Emma Roberts, Rachel Bilson and Whitney Port have been snapped wearing the latest sporty trend, white sunnies. I love them as they go with everything and makes your face look fresher. I found these amazing Ray-Ban 2132 Wayfarer Sunglasses from amazon.

Creepers have been seen on a lot of celebrities and in the magazines. I'm not too sure about them. What do you think?

These patent ones are from Topshop for £95

Retro shoes

Love the retro look? Found these in the river island sale. Was £45 now £15. So pretty. Will go beautifully with a little summer/ tea dress.

Who wore it best

This is Christina and kristen Stewart both wearing the same Lacey Valentino number. I like Christina's relaxed down hair do with red lipstick but I think kristen looks sophisticated with her hair pulled back. What do you think?

Summer holiday wish list

Although the weather here in Britain has been rubbish, there's still that little bit of hope in all of us that the weather is going to improve enough to hit the beaches. Browsing through topshop today I found this little outfit. It's very summery and the top has a retro look to it, which I love.
The top is £24 and the shorts are in the sale for £15.

Rose Gold Jewellery

The statement jewellery piece alot on alot of peoples wish list is the Michael Kors MK5128 Rose Gold Plated Watch . I have found this to be sold out in most shops. ASOS included. They sell this one at £199.

After some searching i have found a similar, budget version from River island at £20. Click me to buy.

Welcome to my new blog. Excuse the lack of posts, but i am working on some new ideas. Will be posting shortly.
